The farm is smashed, & Mark requests help to rebuild

Mark Daley, owner, via WhatsApp voice text on Oct 31

" Storm messed up the whole place. There's so much alight plus across the road. There's so much trees. There's so much roof blown off. Oh my God, the whole Westmoreland ....  is really smashed. Black River is really smashed. Montego Bay airport.

I got work to do, big time.

Some past guests reaching out to me as well. I just saw when I came here to Wi-Fi. Send updates I'm okay. Update them.

f anyone can help it would be great - I really got a hard beat down on the farm. All the plants are blown down, some of the roof flipped up and off, it's really smashed up.

I have to get charged on the phone and I have to come back to the same spot and it's south. Not easy. I have to come back to Sav again to talk. "

  • Savannah La Mar is normally about 45 min away from Negril - it's currently taking at least 3x that long to reach there.
  • We will post pics here in the coming days.

Communications lines are down.

The few videos posted look pretty bad in Negril.

Praying for all of Jamaica!!

We at Jamaican Roots appreciate you for checking in and wishing Mark well - !

We are updating here on our site so that everyone can check.

Mark battened down the building and construction sites at the farm, harvested all the fruit that he could, reinforced all of the zinc sheet roofs, secured his building materials, disconnected all power, and prepared the farm as best as he could.

He's sheltering with others at a friend's concrete and steel building, in the area. Together they have food supplies, solar, water, and a generator.

Donations enabled, for those who are able

We've created a way for those who wish to help and can, to donate. Mark thanks you in advance.

  • The farm's secure Lightspeed store is hosted & managed in Canada
  • Payment processing is by Stripe, which is a standard 30cents + 2.99% per transaction
  • We are choosing not to use Gofundme because of the overhead & time delay
  • 100% of all assistance received will be sent to Mark - no corporate cuts, no overhead (other than Stripe)

Any financial aid provided will be sent directly to Mark to assist with food, supplies, gasoline, and rebuilding the farm. He will get an appointment and code for access to cash pickup stations, which we will facilitate from Canada.

And to everyone, near and far, who is reaching out or checking in, keep all Jamaicans on your mind. Together we're cheering on their resilience, helping weather this devastating aftermath, and pledging to rebuild stronger on the other side.
