A peek into the farm...
Building is happening!
Together with the latest devotee to the farm - our good friend Scott from the US - we are building back stronger.
A previous visitor to the farm, Scott weathered the storm in Jamaica (!!!), and found himself deeply connected to the land & Mark's vision. He's putting in work & resources to build the farm back even better, for more to enjoy.
You'll be seeing Scott around the farm in the coming weeks - One Love! 🌿
Internet is back on!
Finally got the fibre connection restored by Flow... Mark's been going down to town to reach the outside world, so this will make it much easier to coordinate as we push through the rebuilding efforts & manage the business of the farm. It takes a lot of communication that we previously took for granted.
Your contributions are very appreciated 🤲🏽
Thanks to many contributions from those of you who are able, and to ALL of those who believe in our dream to share the delights of a tropical farm with visitors from near and far.
We appreciate the support & trust from people such as Darby, Jeremy, Roberta, Greg, Thea, Claire, Missy, Kemona, Tina, and Donna.... so much! It would have been that much more difficult for us to build & expand this tropical farm oasis for all to enjoy without YOU!
We are excited for you to come back & see what we've been up to 🌿
Power is back on!
Thankfully power is restored. Mark had an electrician friend come and check all of the wires and connections to ensure nothing would be sparking.
No word on the farm's fibre internet connection yet.
Shout out to Jamaica Power Service - and Flow & Digicel - for working through the incredible demand and terrible circumstances.
Power is still off
Mark is rebuilding and determined to make things even better while he's at it - despite a lack of power.
It's arduous clearing & rebuilding by hand, but there's not much else he can do.
He's creating paths in the farm as he clears debris, planting more seedlings from the nursery, and working with neighbours and friends to rebuild stronger.
Upside: there will be even more places to enjoy when the time comes for visitors to return! :-)
Photos to come...
Mark sends an update
Mark Daley, owner, via WhatsApp voice text:
" Storm messed up the whole place. There's so much alight plus across the road. There's so much trees. There's so much roof blown off. Oh my God, the whole Westmoreland .... is really smashed. Black River is really smashed. Montego Bay airport.
I got work to do, big time.
Some past guests reaching out to me as well. I just saw when I came here to Wi-Fi. Send updates I'm okay. Update them.
If anyone can help it would be great - I really got a hard beat down on the farm. All the plants are blown down, some of the roof flipped up and off, it's really smashed up.
I have to get charged on the phone and I have to come back to the same spot and it's south. Not easy. I have to come back to Sav again to talk. "
Note - Savannah La Mar is normally about 45 min away from Negril - it's currently taking at least 3x that long to reach there.
Power & internet are off
Communications lines are down, as is power.
The few videos posted look pretty bad in Negril.
Praying for all of Jamaica!!
- THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONCERN ! -
We appreciate you for checking in and wishing Mark well !
We will provide updates here on our site so that everyone can check in if and when they wish.
Mark has battened down the building and construction sites at the farm, harvested all the fruit that he could, reinforced & strapped down the zinc sheet roofing, & secured his building materials as much as possible.
He is sheltering at a friend's concrete and steel building, in the area, close to the Red Dragon.
The animals (3 dogs, 2 cats, birds) have been let loose to fend for themselves as they will instinctively find the safest spots.
Landfall happened a couple hours ago.
Internet is still on & devices are charged.
Will update here as we hear more.
Around 1pm EST
